“Give Her Her Flowers” pays tribute to Tina Bell. A black woman whose contributions that went on to shape the sound and culture that would define Seattle as we know it was almost forgotten. I wanted to celebrate her as shes now being recognized “The Godmother of grunge”. Drawing from my own visual language of growing up in California; airbrushed memorial t shirts are a familiar form of public remembrance, love,community and pride. Both a memorial and reclamation, asking us all to reconsider who gets to be remembered, celebrated, and whose stories become part of Northwest Lore.
