In 2008, Anthony Curcio carried out one of the most carefully planned armored truck robberies in U.S. history. After spending months preparing, he created an elaborate escape route through nearby Woods Creek in Monroe, WA and posted a Craigslist ad that brought dozens of people dressed alike to the scene, allowing him to blend into the crowd. When a Brink’s truck driver arrived with more than $400,000, Curcio pepper-sprayed the guard, took the cash, and escaped using an inner tube and a pulley system he had built to pull himself 200 yards upstream, where a getaway car was waiting. He remained free for more than a year before DNA evidence led to his arrest. Curcio served six years in federal prison and later became an author and motivational speaker. Absolute Monroe legend
