The world was once shrouded in darkness because the sky chief kept the stars the moon and the sun in bentwood boxes in his lodge. The raven, at this time, was a pure white bird who wanted to bring light into the dark world. Being a trustee by nature, the raven hatched an elaborate plan to steal these shiny celestial objects one by one. In the end the raven flys into the sky with the sun in his beak. The heat from the sun scorches his feathers black as coal, as he brings light to the world.
