“Tales of the hoop snake are found across both the Pacific Northwest and Australia. Sightings report a snake that bites its own tail to form a circle, rolling over land to chase after its prey. In some cases it has a venomous spike at the end of its tail and in others there are spikes that form inside the circle, like the spokes of a tire. In either case the fatal moment is on impact when the snake injects its venom into its victim.
If you find yourself in the unfortunate circumstance of running away from a hoop snake it is advised to quickly jump behind a tree at the last moment and allow the snake to collide into it, in which case the tree will wither and die from the venom (but you’ll survive!)
I first started making art inspired by comparative mythology and am still compelled by curious cases of similar myths found worlds and timelines apart.”
